The Long Island Single Sailors’ Association is a group of adult singles, mostly from Long Island, dedicated to Sailing and Boating and just about anything nautical… or at least that’s what we were when we first started this club 25 years ago. Then, most weekends, May through October, our members were found enjoying the waters of Long Island Sound, The Peconic, and the Great South Bay. Our home ports still include Huntington, Northport, Oyster Bay, Greenport and many of the South Shore ports like Islip and Bay Shore but, we’re out on the water less these days. 25 years is a good chunk of time and while the youthful mind still wants to move like we did when we were 49, the body doesn’t seem to follow. They say youth is wasted on the young. Who could argue. Enjoying the water is still a priority, still part of our heart and soul and still what most of us enjoy doing… though, a bit more slowly. But, what’s the rush? Enjoy the day, we say, and the company, and the good conversation with friends sharing stories 20 years old.
Wintertime brings a hot cup of sailor’s grog, a New Years Eve party, or a bus into NY to see a Broadway Play. Right now, we have 1 social each month at Nocello’s in Northport. The socials are a great way to meet us up close and personal and find out what’s happening in the club. Check us out. We have a DJ so if you like to dance, we do a lot of it. The hot buffet’s always great and so is the opportunity to meet new people, and possibilities do exist to meet that special someone.
We are one of the best and most successful Singles Organizations on Long Island. The bottom line is always: “Let’s Have Fun!” And we do! While our membership might lament the passage of time we are looking to the future and sincerely hope to attract new members to carry the torch forward. We’ve lost nothing in the way of structure and everything is in place for you, as a new member, to create your own events, bring in your own friends and associates and become involved in a time tested organization. What we have now is an extended family, in every sense of the phrase. What we need most are boat owners who want to go sailing and enjoy our good source of available crew.
You don’t have to own a boat or know how to sail to become a member. The only thing we do ask is that you have an interest in meeting new people and are willing to give some time and effort to help make LISSA a continued success well into the future. There are no limitations to the creative mind. The world is your oyster.
